Blue Ridge Parkway Road Trip: Must-See Stops in Virginia
The Virginia stretch of the Blue Ridge Parkway between Vesuvius and Waynesboro is one of the most scenic drives in the country. Plan on unhurried driving — the parkway speed limit is 45 mph and overlooks are worth the pull-over. Here are the must-see stops on this segment of our itinerary.
- 12 Ridges Vineyard (Milepost 20)
A mountaintop tasting room with sweeping Blue Ridge views — the perfect entry point after climbing up from Vesuvius.
- Bald Mountain Overlook (Milepost 23)
An easy roadside pull-off with a wide-open panorama of the Shenandoah Valley.
- Raven's Roost Overlook
One of the most-photographed overlooks on the parkway. Come in the late afternoon for the best light on Torry Ridge.
- Humpback Rocks & Visitor Center
Stretch your legs on the short (but steep) hike to the Humpback Rocks summit, or explore the restored 1890s mountain farm at the visitor center.
- Virginia Distillery Company (nearby, off-parkway)
A worthwhile detour in Lovingston for an American single-malt tasting flight before you rejoin the parkway.
- Afton Overlook & Rockfish Gap
The northern gateway to this stretch — grab a map at the Rockfish Gap Tourist Information Center before heading down into Waynesboro.
